Dance Moms | Abby Lee Dance Company
Dance Moms is an American reality television series that debuted on Lifetime on July 13, 2011. Created by Collins Avenue Productions, the show follows the early careers of children in dance and show business under the tutelage of Abby Lee Miller, as well as the participation of the dancers' mothers. Set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Los Angeles, California, the show is primarily filmed at the Abby Lee Dance Company studios.
Controversies and criticism: Several episodes highlighted controversial costume choices made by Miller, some of which have been criticized by mothers, particularly Lukasiak and Frazier. Due to strong criticism, the Season 2 episode "Topless Showgirls," which aired on March 6, 2012, was removed from the rotation. The episode features the young dancers perform a burlesque-style routine and using sequins, bra tops and pants in flesh tones in an effort to make them appear naked. Miller defends his costume choice saying: "Everyone in the industry knows the girls are completely covered and all harmless." Lifetime confirms that pull the episode on 23 March 2012. The episode is not included on the DVD
On 29 January 2014, Miller announced that Kelly Hyland and his two Brooke and Paige daughters are not contracted with and no longer appear in Dance Moms as stated in an appearance on The View (she also referred to other, unnamed, team / Cast Member, as no longer one of his students and only comes to the studio to Dance Moms filming. Later it was confirmed that she was referring to Chloe Lukasiak.) Hyland was arrested in early January in the alleged assault charges after a dispute backstage at a dance competition held in New York, during the filming of the fourth season of the series in November 2013. Hyland appeared in court with Miller on January 21, 2014, pleaded "not guilty" to charges Physical aggression. Proceedings were resumed in March. At the hearing in March, without explanation, one Bronx County Supreme Court judge again suspended the hearing on 5 May 2014. expert legal Rosemarie Arnold opined that because the episode aired on TV, defending Kelly Hyland that "smack down "was scripted was a viable defense. The episode featuring the incident between Hyland and Miller aired on February 11, 2014. After the final episode of Season 4, Christi and Chloe left "Dance Moms" because of continuous insults and contemptuous treatment toward Chloe. In October 2014, then-13-year-old Paige Hyland sued Abby Lee Miller, but the action of Paige was fired.
